I had the good fortune to meet him during the early 1980's at his home in Wanganui & we talked about his life in the Air Force. The Battle of Britain & his service with 605 Sqn was discussed in depth especially the day he was shot down while flying Hurricane P2765 UP-N. Best read the entry for him here aircrewremembered.com/humphreys-james-1.html?__cf_chl_jschl_tk__=pmd_N.g8pBuei7qO7uKpCDsjw2LLmik6LFnSQbq9e.AyuDI-1635124245-0-gqNtZGzNAmWjcnBszQQR He was also very passionate about the RNZAF Museum obtaining a Hurricane given the majority of Kiwi fighter pilots in the RAF flew them at some time. He passed away in 1986. I assume (hope) that the panel stayed with his family. The highlight though was when he showed me the escape panel from P2765 c/w Tiki and its superstition significance. He allowed me to photograph the panel too. After years in storage I found the photographs again. The negative is beyond redemption & as you can see the colours in the photo is not the best.
