We only managed to get a smallish audience for the live broadcast thanks to the Christmas silly season and the good weather in a lot of the country I guess, with the highest figure I saw online being just 36. So I am pleased that since it went on YouTube yesterday the event has already had 125 views.

I am very glad I asked Garth about flying the P-40. His story of his first take off was incredible!

Wow is not all I’m going to say but WOW! Just finished a most enjoyable session in front of my lap top, thank you so much Dave and your helpers. I do apologise in advance for the following rant, I am just a bit of a full on old aeroplane nut who has had his addiction more than satisfied.
What stands out is the details these chaps have gone into, just fascinating, added to which a lot of this is being achieved in very trying times! We can’t compare the pandemic to wartime conditions, perhaps there are some parallels. Restoring old aeroplanes is hard in normal times, the trials and tribulations some of these people have been through must have tested the metal!
Garth and the P40, really liked hearing about the Hanna’s encouraging Garth to fly her, so great to hear that their legacy lingers. Oh yeah and the first take off experience, whoa!
Bevan’s Harvard, Grand Champion at Oshkosh contender? What a great surprise to see the process knowing it was happening but not knowing the details and then getting a full on blast like that was very cool. Also love the scheme chosen.
Don’s Staggerwing, again a detailed story, can’t wait to see the Kiwi and Aussie Staggerwings together, great that she has come home to roost. Really like when she was out on the lawn of the owner’s house and all the locals were surprised and commented on how nice a person the chap was.
Al and the Mosi team, we and future generations will forever indebted to John Smith and his family for their generosity allowing this heirloom to be displayed. The same applies to the volunteers and companies who have supported getting her to as she sits today, thank you so much.
The part I found interesting in this segment was the consideration, the road blocks, put in place in running the engines, so much involved and to be considered. Also the speed in which she went from being in a shed in Mapua to being on display to Omaka. Have driven the road from Nelson to Blenheim, there a hill and a half involved, that journey with a large long truck with such a precious load in its self is no mean feat!
Finally Brendan’s Mustang, as Brendan stated she has been very well covered on the Biggin Hill Facebook page. The British connection with the Mustang is something that is known about but not often discussed. Again a lot of progress in a short period of time in trying conditions!
Sorry for the rant and again thank you Dave for more than satisfying my old aeroplane addiction, bravo!

I am glad you both enjoyed it, Ken and Peter.
Peter, that wasn't a rant, that was some great feedback.

I am very glad I asked Garth about flying the P-40. His story of his first take off was incredible! Have you read his books? Highly recommend his autobiography Go Fast or Go home(thanks to Don Simms for lending me that and for lending me The Whole Nine yards book about Currawong Garth's P40) . Even though motor sport and drag racing are not major interests of mine his book gave a fascinating insight into that world (both the sport and as a business as far as parts etc). It was also quite compelling about his family life and the effect of his parents on him, especially his father. Plus he covers the P40 rebuilds too and flying his one.

Garth has a special offer right now for WONZ Forum members - details on this thread posted by his daughter Lucinda: rnzaf.proboards.com/thread/29712/fast-home
