The colour scheme depicted in the images above were devised by Graeme Taylor and his wife Anne when they bought the aircraft from Bill Shaw, who replaced it with ZK-DHA, in the 1970's. At that time its fabric was replaced and repainted by Temp Martin's Airepair, prior to that it had been silver overall. I expected it has been recovered again since that time retaining it white/green scheme. Graeme and his wife later sold the aircraft and moved to Australia where Graeme and his 17 y.o. passenger were killed in the crash of a Champion in the Barossa Valley, South Australia in May 2005

This reminded me of Graeme, whom I knew well in my gliding days at YP and I have happy memories of him and BEF.
I must be confused over his accident though as, now I've Googled it, I realise I was wrong in thinking that it was whilst mustering cattle in the Outback somewhere. I'm sure that what I heard at the time but obviously not. None-the-less tragic, though

Thomarse, Yes an avoidable accident that claimed an innocent life. I've not read the accident report but I was informed shortly after the crash that Graeme was suffering from cancer at the time. Perhaps this is eluded to in the report?

These from Ohakea during the '80's (unsure when) I guess still with Bill Shaw:

Definitely with Graeme and Anne Taylor at time as this white/green colour scheme was devised by the owners

When I was seven or eight my Dad came back from a work trip to Darwin where he visited the aviation museum (and took photos that, somehow, he STILL hasn't had developed!!) and bought me the Stuart Bain DH book with BEF on the cover. Add in that a very good mate of mine moved to Waipuk to learn to fly Tigers with BEF and it's funny how things work out in this world! Graeme and his wife later sold the aircraft and moved to Australia where Graeme and his 17 y.o. passenger were killed in the crash of a Champion in the Barossa Valley, South Australia in May 2005 I had no idea, I'm so sorry to hear that.

Perhaps this is eluded to in the report? Yes, "terminal illness" is referred to. VH-TUF will get you to the Report
