It's happening folks! Airfix 1/24 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc A17001 by Zac Yates, on Flickr Overnight Airfix announced a brand-new Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc kit in 1/24 scale, consisting of 433 parts! I have seen the rrp quoted as between £89.90 and £100. So that will mean about $NZ400 in the shops the way they mark up models in this country....

There goes the Packard Mk.XVI My goodness, I'd be tempted to leave half the model in skeletal form...

Rather than repost his photos, LargeScalePlanes member "geedubelyer" has shared some great sprue shots of the 1/24 Spitfire IXc on that forum (link).

Scenario time - if you had one of these 1/24 Spitfire IX models, whose aircraft would you model?
I'd be inclined towards a No. 485 (NZ) Squadron machine, maybe one flown by Bill "Hawkeye" Wells, because he was an ace, the CO and later Wing Leader, and was born and bred here in Cambridge. Or maybe Keith Macdonald (who also lived here postwar). Or maybe another Cambridge Spitfire pilot in anotherunit, like Roy Fisher who flew Mk, IX's in North Africa and from Britain.

Yes the price of models these days is a big part of the reason I gave up modelling years ago, Shorty. That and no time and no space.

Scenario time - if you had one of these 1/24 Spitfire IX models, whose aircraft would you model? If it includes the "e" wing parts - which I have a feeling it doesn't, and may come later - then without a doubt TB863. That aircraft was hugely influential in developing my warbird interest as a child and I'd love to do her justice with this magnificent kit.

I have seen the rrp quoted as between £89.90 and £100. Airfix’s pre-order price is £94.99! Airfix Club members get a 10% discount though, which explains the cheaper price some folk have been able to get.

Well, Airfix are backing themselves into a corner, they should know that an after market supplier is bound to do this. I predict this kit selling very well indeed. The after market developments will be interesting to watch.

It's about time someone produced a IXc in this scale. Airfix have really 'upped their game' too and if it's as well engineered and produced as their recent Buccaneer offerings then we are in for a treat
