Wouldn't be surprised if one of the 757's or another Herc was going over with support personnel and equipment. Unless we have "phoned a friend" for some airlift support.

Exactly, it was implied in one of the reports that the 50 were all going in the Herc, which didn't seem a good use of resources when I assume we have a bunch of unique spares requirements.

NZ7003 as KIW806 can be followed on FlightRadar24. While typing this it is reporting at 25,000 feet heading towards either Western or American Samoa. At times like this one can only admire the work those first three Hercules have achieved in their long years of faithful RNZAF service. Looking at www.adf-serials.com.au/nz-serials/nzhercules.htm I see they all arrived in Wellington on 14 April 1965 on delivery. Questions: Is NZ7002 still flying? What are is stopping points? At this stage it appears to have remained airborne after departing Whenuapai .

I saw something the other day where a dumbass reporter was questioning the "ageing" C-130 with a NZDF bod. The guy could have told the reporter that the Herc has had structural and avionic upgrades, keeping it current with military requirements. It's likely that the aircraft will be one of the most highly maintained C-130s there, as the RNZAF does tend to gold plate its aircraft.

But interestingly the NZDF has photos of (presumably) the non-lethal military assistance being loaded onto a Boeing 757. www.nzdf.mil.nz/nzdf/search-our-libraries/images/?collection=Support+to+Ukraine&tags=The NZDF website photos aren't dated but the metadata shows a date of 28 March (unsure if that's the photo or upload date), so perhaps the 757 wasn't available to assist with the C-130 mission a couple of days ago hence the commercial flights for the personnel? (Pity acquisitions don't include just one more aircraft to cater for contingencies or unavailability eg having three 757's rather than two)?

I think the B757 just took them over the ditch as there is the below showing them going on to a RAAF C-17 on April 6th

@lloydburr: It’s made it to Europe! Our @nzairforce C-130 Herc has crossed the Atlantic from Halifax, Canada and now flying over Ireland. I’m guessing it’s heading to @rafbrizenorton. #FlyingKiwi #DoingOurBit #KIW806 #NZ7003

Risky stuff according to the reporter... "This potential for delays and cancellations adds to the one faced by prime ministers for years – the Air Force plane used for this kind of travel is prone to breakdowns and needs to be refuelled in Australia before making it to Singapore."
