And just in time for its arrival, the UK CAA issues an inspection requirement for the inspection of the U/c legs which requires their removal from the wing............on all Mustangs. Not mandatory in USA but expect it is/shall be in UK, NZ and Oz. Look up Safety Notice 2022-004. You would think this was already a requirement at least after so many hours at least. Or is it not being done to this extent and want them all done? Be interesting to learn if aany of them are cracking. And what mod state. EDIT: I see some of the reasons are covered in the notice and cracking is one of them. One Mustang having both types of gear pivot fitted (light and heavy)

That AD came through in an email from the NZ CAA a couple of days ago so it has definitely made it's way here.

Speaking of Mustangs being grounded to check for undercarriage faults...
DEFECT FOUND IN MUSTANGS
AIRCRAFT GROUNDED TEMPORARILY
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 24.
Because of the discovery of a technical defect in the undercarriages, Mustang aircraft of the Royal New Zealand Air Force have been temporarily withdrawn from flying. Air Force Headquarters today said that this was the normal procedure, pending technical investigations. A spokesman said that the defect was related to a recent incident at Harewood, when a Mustang undercarriage leg collapsed during the landing run. The Mustang aircraft are in service with the four territorial fighter squadrons of the R.N.Z.A.F. at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. These squadrons will operate with Harvard aircraft in the meantime.
