After taking up painting as a post-retirement pastime earlier this year, I've already completed enough paintings that I could make half an aviation art calendar if I really wanted! I hadn't specifically intended to become an aviation artist. In fact, I started off with painting basic landscapes. But then I found I specially enjoyed painting any man-made objects contained in my pictures, especially boats and planes, and so I began to concentrate more on them. All these aircraft mean something to me: two that my wife worked on as cabin crew; another couple that my late father-in-law used to pilot in the UK during the 60s; one of a type in which I once flew to Antarctica; and one that is my first childhood memory from living in Evans Bay, Wellington in the 50s. I am still very much a beginner at this. I am not yet good at getting my aircraft to be absolutely accurate. Whilst I hope I'm successfully capturing the 'look and feel' of these planes, I know that rivet-counters will have a field day! This is partly because I still need to develop the level of technical drawing and artistic skills required, but also because I actually don't know that much about the intracacies of aircraft and how they work.

For someone with limited detailed knowledge you have captured each type well. I found them instantly recognisable with no glaring proportional inaccuracies. I particularly like the DC-3 and Constellation on final. Good work!
