Some more old footage, an Ansett New Zealand Dash 8, they were the days! The 300 was brand new on her ferry flight from Canada. I think these stills maybe the above machine after she had been to Australia for a paint job many years after she had previously visited with Canadian rego?

The photo of the Dash 8 showing the registration C-FEDG was taken when the aircraft arrived in New Zealand on delivery to Air Nelson in November 2005. The aircraft had departed from Downsview, Toronto and flew to North Bay, Ontario to be fitted with long range fuel tanks. It then continued to Grand Rapids, Michigan, Concord, CA, Honolulu, Pago Pago, Auckland to Nelson arriving on 20 Nov 2005. The Canadian Registration was cancelled on 22 Nov and the aircraft re-registered as ZK-NEC to Air Nelson on 23 Nov 2005. The other shots were taken at Lord Howe Island a few years ago when the aircraft transited enroute to Townsville to be repainted into the current black and white livery.

My photo was taken at Nelson, after it returned from Townsville for its repaint and illustrating its new scheme. It's been announced that the seven remaining blue tailed Dashes are going to be painted in the black livery.

These are NED, NEE, NEF, NEG, NEH, NEJ, NEK and NEO. Is my list correct?

ZK-NEK needs the Kiwi icon Levi Hawken painted on the tail, and Minnit added after the rego.

ZK-NEK needs the Kiwi icon Levi Hawken painted on the tail, and Minnit added after the rego. Been done already by one of the engineers. Was done back in 2012 with a Dymo label in very small letters, barely perceptible and missed if you didn't look directly at the rego. Was located on the right hand side. It has been removed during a subsequent C chk.

Here's the proof. A few pilots and groundies noticed it as it was on the aircraft for about four years. Rumour has it, it might reappear after NEK gets sprayed in the black scheme... Nek Minit sm

Looks like NED is now black rather than blue. If correct, where was it done? Are there any other converts or is it still NEE, NEF, NEG, NEH, NEJ, NEK and NEO to be repainted? Any news on when the remainder will be attended to (where and when)?

Same queries apply for NEE Hi Peter, yes, the fleet is being progressively repainted. I don't have the schedule to hand, but it is happening at present and I think NEJ is next. The work is being done by Airbus in Blenheim, so get your pictures of Blue tail Dashes while they last, because they'll all be gone soon. _DSC9757

I suspect that the next Dash 8 to be repainted will be the ZK-NEF (the next one alphabetically after ZK-NEE). According to Flight Radar 24 it last flew on 16 April 2023 when it ferried from Nelson to Blenheim as flight NZ8973. Watch this space!

ZK-NEF was our ride from Wellinton to Nelson on 2 April on our way to Classic Fighters Omaka 2023. I hope they take the opportunity to give the interior a bit of TLC and a makeover as well, as my wife and I both noted it was looking a little tired and the seat padding - even for a Dash 8 - seemed to be almost non-existant. Fortunately only a short flight. ZK-NEF by Colin Ford, on Flickr

I've had to take the Invercargill/Wellington Dash 8 flight a few times for work - almost two hours in one of those is not a lot of fun!
