New Zealand National Airways Corporation (NAC) officially came into being 75 years ago on 1 April 1947 but as most forum followers will know, it merged to become the domestic arm of Air New Zealand, effective 1 April 1978.
For several years now, former NAC staff and spouses have been gathering annually at Classic Flyers, Tauranga Airport for a luncheon. Attendees have numbered in the 100s. One week on from making the announcement, we already have over 100 people confirming their attendance this year.
Covid put a stop to a planned celebration in May so this year's event will take place on Wednesday, 2 November at Classic Flyers. The luncheon will cost $49.00 per person. The guest speaker will be Captain David Morgan of Air New Zealand. It is planned that three former NAC aircraft will be present; namely the resident Heron ZK-BBM, regular visitor DC-3 Skyliner ZK-AWP and occasional visitor de Havilland Gipsy Moth ZK-ADT. The Moth was the oldest aircraft in the fleet having been inherited from Union Airways. It is hoped that the DC-3 will do a complete engine run-up for old time's sake. Could be a tear jerker.
If you were an NAC staff member and would like to attend, or know of someone who would qualify and be interested in attending, please send me a PM advising your name and email address OR email me at: thelaynesnz@gmail.com for further details about registration and payment.
The close off date for registration is 19 October.
Thanks
