Would like to buy hearing protection for my 2yo for air shows. Any recommendations? I don’t know where to start looking.
Thanks.

Mitre10 have kids 3M Peltor ear defenders. Pink or Yellow/green neon. Bunnings too I think. Other brands and colours are out there as well.
If you do get some, let them wear them for fun before the big day.

Let the boy experience the raw sounds of airshows like us when we were kids. No harm ensued. The exposure time per decibel count will be within acceptable limits. It is essential for the boy's formative development to not be nanny-stated while his peers enjoy unfettered experience and learning. If you must do something, just teach him to close his ear entrances with finger pressure for the few seconds required.

I partially agree with you but she’s not old enough to learn to do that reliably yet, and having damaged my own ears when younger (albeit from loud guitars rather than aircraft) I’m extra sensitive to it.

I remember actually feeling pain when a F-27 Friendship taxied to the apron at Hamilton when I was a kid. You are doing them a favour protecting them from sounds adults cannot hear.

At 10 my boy can still hear high frequencies that most adults can't- kids are more sensitive to higher frequencies and in some cases loud noises terrify them. At 4 he could tell me if a helicopter or aircraft was coming 10 seconds before I could.

Though noting that letting the boy play with the earmuffs did result in their loss for several weeks, until I got a large pot out of the kitchen draw to cook something... we thought he'd put them in the rubbish, and we hadn't noticed.

The other week when I was at Matamata Aerodrome and there was a bunch of Air Scouts aged about 11 and 12 there, they were complaining about an intermittent high pitched buzzing that the adults could not hear. It was explained by a glider club member that this was an alarm to scare the birds away from the hangar, and designed to be heard by birds and not the adult humans. It was evident that some of the swallows were also deaf as they were buzzing round in and out of the hangar at the same time, lol.
Also, the sound of turbo prop aeroplanes should be blocked whatever age you are. They sound horrible and are damaging.
