A little-known fact; if the aircraft was powered by a DH Gipsy III it was called a DH 60G-III Moth; if by a Gipsy Major I it was a DH 60 Moth Major. Note the Gipsy III was an inverted version of the previous Gipsy II, and the latter was an improved Gipsy I. The Gipsy Major I was a redesigned and enlarged version of the Gipsy III.
All the aircraft shipped to New Zealand for our aero clubs, and subsequently impressed into military service here were powered by the Gipsy Major I, which of course was the same engine as installed in all our DH 82As (Tiger Moths, officially designated as the Mk. II in RAF). This last detail hardly ever necessary in New Zealand as we never had any of the much rarer original DH 82 variant (known in the RAF as Tiger Moth Mk. I).
Sorry for the above, couldn't help myself, but these aircraft have caused a lot of nomenclatureal confusion over the years.
