When you see the height and speed, it's really amazing Len Trent and some of the Ventura crew members were able to bale out.

I reckon you can see something I have noticed before when aircraft are strafing targets, usually more visible when strafing ground targets. This was using the rudder to give a wider spread to your shells, usually just gently left then right (or vice-versa) to hopefully increase general destruction. I have seen (on film) diving Typhoons and the like doing it too, so guess this was a well-known practice to one and all (including our enemies of the time). Probably done today too I guess, whenever circumstances are similar.
