WONZ 262 is now online. In this episode I chat with four of the key people behind New Zealand’s biggest airshows, Tracy Dixon (Wings Over Wairarapa), Ed Taylor (Warbirds Over Wanaka), Gavin Conroy (Yealands Classic Fighters) and Frank Parker (President of NZ Warbirds Association, and Warbirds On Parade). We hear a little about the journey each of them went through to get to the position they have within the airshow industry, and we discuss the challenges to airshows in recent years. With more optimism we look at the upcoming airshows this summer, with Warbirds On Parade on the 4th of December 2022 at Ardmore, Wings Over Wairarapa at Masterton over the 24th to 26th of February 2023, and Classic Fighters at Omaka over Easter weekend, 7th to 9th of April 2023. Loved the airshow round table. My favourite sort of content. Great guests, all leaders in their field, in fact each one could do with a stand-alone episode. I enjoyed the sense of collegiality between the guests. They recognise that each show offers something different, and are happy to support the scene as a whole rather than protecting their own patches. Great stuff, thanks.

Thanks very much Campbell. Agreed that it is great to see the support for each other and the working together for the common good.
There is definitely plans in place to have further episodes with the airshow organisers as we draw closer to each airshow. So we're planning a show on Wings Over Wairarapa with Tracy and also Carla Steed (and I am going to also invite Ron Mark to join us)) probably late Jan-early Feb.
And We'll do a standalone show with Gavin Conroy and Rachael Brown as Classic Fighters approaches too.
And in 2024 we'll do the same with Ed and one or two Wanaka team members as well.
Anything to help to promote the shows and generate some interest. And also make the public aware of the trials and tribulations that these dedicated people go through with budgeting, logistics, herding cats, maintenance issues, etc., when it comes to putting on these wonderfully entertaining and educational events for us.

That was a terrific show, thank you Dave and to all the interviewees. Very interesting stuff.
Speaking of which, I swear I heard Frank Parker say "the Mosquito won't be ready" for Warbirds On Parade...?

Speaking of which, I swear I heard Frank Parker say "the Mosquito won't be ready" for Warbirds On Parade...? I had the same reactions! Yes, good discussion, and suggests that the Mosquito is at least being worked on? Or maybe it is just what people have been asking Frank about!

"For an American client". I thought the UK based Mosquito Pathfinder Trust had bought it? Either way, great to see it being progressed to airworthy status.

Nope, that deal was never completed despite what you read, Don.
