From the AFMoNZ site: OhG1011-52
Is that the remains of a badge or coat-of-arms above the door?

Certainly looks like it! Love the Roman sandals, OSH, where are you? Presume that photo taken up in Northland, Exercise Hard Tack?

Perhaps Kaitaia if it is in Northland? It could be the Maungataniwha Range in the background but not sure.

It is indeed Kaitaia. But the Air Force Museum has the caption wrong in stating it is Exercise Hartack. This was actually called Operation Hard Tack. I have always wondered why it was designated as an operation rather than an exercise.

From AFMoNZ site: "Exercise Hardtack at Kaitaia airfield. Armourers re-arming a No. 75 Squadron Mosquito. Leading Aircraftman Dave McCauley (left) and Corporal Rupe Phillips (middle). Two on the ground unknown" Photo was taken on the 17th March 1953. Oops - you beat me Dave
