I happened to be coming back from my lunch break just as NZ2308 was heading out for another flight, so here's another one for you. It does look absolutely stunning in the sun in that silver scheme. Wow she's a peach, yes stunning is a great description, looking forward to seeing pic's of her at Wanaka, so grateful for those who share their pictures for those of us from further a field, thank you so much...

There was a good coverage by Michael Holland of Seven Sharp tonight of NZ2308's return to airworthy status. Good to see mention was made of Glyn PoWeLl as in ZK-PWL. David Gill from CAA has offered another comment on paint scheme amendments on the aircraft registrar.
"When an Identifiable Paint Scheme is approved it means the aircraft does not have to display any registration marks. CAA does not verify the authenticity of the colour scheme, and are only concerned that it is unique and cannot be mistaken for another aircraft."

Michael Holland seems to be their Warbird Correspondent - he always gets the plum assignments! Hopefully it's okay that I uploaded that video, I wasn't sure if it would be available after the fact, or for folk overseas. I won't lie: seeing the tribute to Glyn in the stencil data brought tears to my eyes.
It's fantastic to see so many photos and videos coming out of this gorgeous machine! The paint scheme has really grown on me and I can't wait to see it in person.
Is anyone else excited at the thought of not just seeing a Mossie at Omaka, but seeing Steve Hinton display a Mossie at Wanaka?

There are some significant ex RNZAF tributes at this show. I'm so pleased that Wanaka gets to make up some lost opportunities with the addition of NZ2308. Add the debut of NZ2423 and NZ1044, and return of NZ5648 makes for a nostalgic spectacle.

So what Mosquitos would we have left now as likely restoration to fly candidates. de Havilland DH98 Mosquito B.IV DZ542 c/n unknown. (Auckland, Ardmore). de Havilland DH98 Mosquito FB.V1 NZ2328, c/n unknown. (Christchurch, Ferrymead). de Havilland DH98 Mosquito FB.V1 NZ2336, c/n unknown. (Omaka). de Havilland DH98 Mosquito FB.V1 NZ2355, c/n unknown. (Christchurch). de Havilland DH98 Mosquito FB.V1 NZ2382, c/n unknown. (Christchurch, Ferrymead). de Havilland DH98 Mosquito FB.V1 ZK-BCU, c/n unknown. (Christchurch, Wigram). de Havilland DH98 Mosquito T.43 NZ2305, c/n unknown. (Auckland, MOTAT). de Havilland DH98 Mosquito T.43 ZK-PWL2, c/n A52-1054. (Auckland, Ardmore). de Havilland DH98 Mosquito FB.V1 NZ2345, c/n unknown (Auckland, Ardmore). Details and any corrections on the above list would be appreciated. You would need new airframes for all of them and Ferrymead, MOTAT and Air Force Museum Wigram are static Museums so very unlikely to be restored to fly. So the only one would be the BIV and the one thats going to be done here for Peter Monk in the UK(whichever that one is?)

The next one is going to the UK, this is the one they advertised will do a tour of New Zealand and Australia before she makes her way to the Biggin Hill (UK) with Peter Monk's operation. www.key.aero/article/de-havilland-mosquito-coming-biggin-hill

There's been no confirmation as to the ID of Peter Monk's machine but the fuselage of B.IV DZ542 was clearly seen in the Seven Sharp piece...but DZ542 is still listed for sale with Platinum Fighter Sales (link). So what Mosquitos would we have left now as likely restoration to fly candidates. de Havilland DH98 Mosquito B.IV DZ542 c/n unknown. (Auckland, Ardmore). de Havilland DH98 Mosquito FB.V1 NZ2328, c/n unknown. (Christchurch, Ferrymead). de Havilland DH98 Mosquito FB.V1 NZ2336, c/n unknown. Details and any corrections on the above list would be appreciated. Unless Ferrymead (or the AFMNZ) were willing to part with one of theirs, I think DZ542 and TE881/NZ2345 are the only candidates for airworthy rebuild in NZ. I don't believe the MOTAT or Smith examples will ever fly.

My apologies, just read the Keyaero piece as fact, which I shouldn't have.
“Peter Monk, Managing Director of flyaspitfire.com and the Spitfire Company (Biggin Hill) said: Following previous announcements and patiently waiting for availability in a busy restoration programme we’re delighted to confirm that we’ve now commissioned the team at AvSpecs to commence the restoration of a Mosquito FB.VI. Upon completion the aircraft will join our fleet of two-seat Spitfires and other World War Two aircraft that are available for flight experiences here at Biggin Hill.”

I was visiting Avspecs on Friday too, they are aiming for departing this Thursday. The weather forecast for Thursday doesn’t look flash for flying down country

Is there any chance of a stop at Omaka on the way back to Ardmore for a twin Mossie photo opportunity?
