Gday all,
I am in the process of joining the NZDF from Australia. I will have my assessment day in March, and this will be the first time I have been to NZ. In contrast with ADF recruiting, there is very little information online to help candidates, much less people wanting to shift their family overseas for a new career, so I was hoping some lovely kiwis might be able to provide some insight.
For context, my preferred role in RNZAF Parachute Jump Instructor, and this is the application being processed. The only thing that might get in the way is if I don't rack up enough jumps by intake day. If this is the case, I am hoping to join the army reserves (infantry) while I fill up my log book.
Cheers,

Also regarding reserves, I’m aiming to join this year and from the recent chats I’ve had with recruiters transferring to the regulars and even between branches is apparently quite straightforward. The recruiter I spoke to last was actually in the process of transferring from the army reserve into the airforce, and said it was lent a big deal.

Thanks for the help. I've been advised that, when attending the interview, I will need to have made a decision about service and full time vs reserves. I will be interviewing for full time RNZAF. First preference is PJI; second preference is SECFOR. The reason I have even made a second preference is because apparently defencecareers has not been given a target for that role (i.e. they can take applications, but they will sit in a pile until they get told to onboard one). This way at least I can start the ball rolling and get recruit training over and done with, and transfer roles if one becomes available. According to the defencecareers website, it looks like I would only be locked into a return of service obligation if I undertake an advanced SECFOR course. I am hoping to get onto intake 3/23 if possible, otherwise 1/24. I am travelling to NZ in March to do my fitness test.
