Thank you for the correction - typo more than informational error, UK Kenya Fiji NZ Aus and Canada all contributed over 1500 men. UK provide Gazelles, Scouts, Pumas and Hercs. USAAF provide 2 C5s and 10 C141 to supplement RAF transport, while I know Aus flew 707s and C130s, Canada 5 Buffalos. Began 20/1279 ended around 3/3/80 after the election which replaced Bishop Muzorewa with Mugabe. The Commonwealth Monitoring Force was there to monitor the process only. I have seen no pictures or personal stories from the NZ contingent whereas the Aus team meet every year and various groups in the UK have a FB page. When I enquired with the USAF for details I was advised the information was restricted, I think mainly because of other operations included in the files I asked to look at.

A brief summary of the Commonwealth Monitoring Force Zimbabwe is contained in the NZDF 1996 publication "In The Field of Peace: New Zealand's contribution to international peace-support operations: 1950 - 1995" compiled by John Crawford the NZDF Historian
