New Mustang restoration

As well as his work on P-51D NZ2423, Pete Burgess has for some time been working on another Mustang for a foreign owner who wishes to remain anonymous for the time being. Both have kindly sent me photos of the project to share on WONZ.

The first part to get Pete’s expert attention was the vertical stabiliser, seen here in as-received condition. I understand the condition was such that it won’t take long before it’s complete.

Interesting colourscheme on the fin. Similar to that used by some South American countries using P51s in the 1960s

If you look at the differences between the colours of the above fin and that on 2423 on pages 5 and 7 of Brendon's rebuild, you can see that the dark green interior colour is far more apparent on the camo one than Brendons. There is some of that dark green on Brendon's around where the tail warning "radar' antenna was fitted, this being a mod.

Hopefully it stays that scheme. The world doesn't need yet another silver mustang.

The Israeli camo would be pretty cool to see on a flyer, I agree! But I feel I must roll this out again (obviously one word should be swapped out) although I don't know the owner's plans...
