kit bashing & scratchbuilding going on here...I had a challenging request from a couple of people wanting Beech 99 models. Initially I said it wasn't possible, however the more I looked into it... There is no kit available for the type but after studying some 3D drawings, undertaking a lot of head scratching and finally biting the bullet and cutting plastic I have been able to re-create a Beechcraft 99 from scratch using a Mach2 Kingair kit as a basis . Yep Mach2 plastic is crappy, however it probably aided construction because it was so soft to deal with! Actually, it is really surprising the commonality of the two aircraft...many of the components can be used. The fuselage is basically correct in dimensions, however a new nose had to be fabricated. The vertical tail has been cut down from the original, however a new rudder was scratch-built and new horizontal stabilizers needed to be scratch-built . The wings and cowls can be re-used, however the tips and center section need to be reduced. New glazing had to be created as the 99 is unpressurised and has square windows. I also added a cargo pannier under the fuselage.
