On the Postwar RNZAF board Turbo started a thread about the gold-coloured Skyhawk painted fo the RNZAF's 50th jubilee. I thought modellers would be interested in this review of the decals for that gorgeous aircraft. Click here decals.kitreview.com/decals/mas489006decalreviewme_1.htm

Yes, but what Mick fails to mention are the two glaring errors on the sheet. Those roundels don't look like any I've ever seen.
Also, the white area from the bottom of the red, white and blue verticals is missing on the decals. The white is a reasonably easy fix, if you can match the paint to the decal, but those kiwis are anemic (heck, they don't even look like kiwis), and the feet should not be attached to the body.
I have the sheet sitting in front of me, and have to say, it is a waste of money for the most part. If anyone is interested, I will be offering either a correction set, or in fact a full replacement sheet at a later date (when I get a chance to get some artwork done).
It annoys me a little when modellers get a sample sheet to review and then are either to lazy or too afraid of offending the manufacturer to note negatives. Anyone who wishes to supply negative ffedback about one of my sheets is always more than welcome to do so.

Those are some good points talon. Welcome to the board by the way.
I had not noticed the Kiwis on my first glance at the page, but yes, they're terrible.
I am interested to know more about your own decals. Please fill us in. Thanks

Just follow the yellow brick road er.. I mean link on my profile (I believe it is visible) or else if it isn't, then go to warlords.hobbyvista.com/Stinger.htm to see what is currently available (at present only two sheets for the high viz P-3, though artwork is done for P-40Es in 1/72 and 1/48 and low viz P-3s in 1/72 and 1/144, but having some problem with the greys and skys). Decals are printed on the ALPS printer, which is basically a wax printer on clear film. Each decal must be cut out individually as they are on one large carrier. I do custom runs as well, but they tend to be more pricey.

Thanks for that. Really interesting and I'm sure a few people here will take note. I'm looking forward to seeing the P40 decals

Thought someone might be interested in the progress to date on the TA-4 using the Hasegawa 1/48 kit mated to the nose of the Monogram OA-4M. Will eventually have a WarEagle vacformed canopy too.

Hi Talon, I've just brought a 1/72 fujumi TA-4 kit with a view to putting it into the Golden Scooter scheme - rather tha spoil it with flawed decals, I'd be interested in a set of yours when they become available - I dont suppose you'd have an ETA yet?

Hi Craig I have just picked up a a OA-4M and I'm going to attempt this process as well. Feel free to keep us (and me in particular) of the progress. Any and all tips you can offer will be appreciated. You (of all people ehre) should know how lazy I am ;D

No problem guys, just don't hold your breath. This one is scheduled to be finished in time for the 2006 IPMS Nationals in November, so will be a year in the making, but will post any progress shots/info as I, er... progress.

This is my next project, anyone know where I can get a pair of 1:72 150 gallon tanks to make it accurate?

The Academy 1/72 OV-10D IIRC has a single 150 gallon tank in it. Not sure if this helps or not.

Sweet! ;D Thanks for the heads up Calum. I was going to shell out for the Hase 1:72 Skyraider just for the tanks (well I kinda like Skyraiders as well , another Douglas classic ), but the Cougar is way easier to find as well as being a lot cheaper. BTW I'm putting up completed pics of my Hase 1:72 A-4K on my in progress thread in a few minutes. Loved the comment about "the Benson and Hedges special" Can't see the photos though for some reason
