15-16th July at Church Fenton - Yorkshire.
Slightly odd choice of airfield but good news it is going ahead
Clashes with Fairford as Legends does every other year sadly - not as if there isn't enough room in UK airshow calendar to fit in both

Leeds East Airport catering for Business Jets.....considerable history there and a lot of boxes had to be ticked to ensure that the airfield, surrounds, accommodation, airspace etc were suitable.

Certainly got a wartime history.
It was a JP and then Tucano training base in my time.
Been to a few RAFA shows there back in the 80s and 90s - still seems a slightly odd choice of venue.

Rumours of USAF heritage flight display with F-35 there - as I said earlier its same weekend as Fairford.
Lots of UK enthusiasts will be pretty frustrated over the timing. World class events are pretty rare on the UK calendar these days and to have two far apart on the same weekend seems a little unfortunate

Yep......much background as to why it moved So I understand - IWM think Duxford is their bat and ball. and Sywell didn't work out either. I am looking at going to The 3 IWM London sites (and Duxford) this as year I haven't been to London for nearly 30 years. I was perusing their websites to come up with a plan on how to tackle it Until I realised I am the wrong demographic for IWM - every photo on the website has a multiracial family looking amazed at the exhibits. An old slight hard to impress white male probably gets barred entry! As an aside I think the best Warbirds show in UK involves going to St Pancras and getting the Eurostar to Paris - Le Ferte and Air Legend are both awesome shows

To me, Legends has always been the Holy Grail and Trev's Midlands Air Festival has really started to wake people up as it has a great selection of warbirds, aeros, military, vintage and massive balloon numbers in a fantastic setting

So I understand - IWM think Duxford is their bat and ball. To be fair, doesn't the IWM own the airfield?

A real shame it still classes with RIAT. In the past at least you could easily do RIAT one day and Duxford the next as they weren't far apart. Not any more...

I plan to do RIAT on the Friday and then head north to Church Fenton on the Saturday and Sunday.

Wednesday - Friday are the best days at Fairford.
Leeds is reasonably easy to get to Friday evening - even if talking to the locals it sounds like you have gone to a foreign country!
Hard to imagine that Church Fenton will be a permanent move

A little disingenuous to call it 'Leeds' despite the airfield's post-military name (Leeds added for commercial integrity I suppose), it is actually closer to York city centre than Leeds (10 minutes to York by train, 25 minutes to Leeds). The airfield hosted the long running SSAFA shows (not RAFA), the franchise lasted some 30 years, prior to that there were numerous BoB/Empire Day shows held there so air displays at Church Fenton are by no means a new concept. The date clashes with RIAT because the preferred slot was already taken by the Private Flyer show and a Young Drivers event, the week after has a Spitfire rides event, a week later Young Drivers again - the airfield is busy. The late confirmation, doubtless the result of continued negotiation/feasibility studies/logistics etc, has ruffled feathers among UK based enthusiasts who seem to believe that this kind of event can be magicked by a generous pinch of fairy dust (others believe it is too far removed from central UK - geography clearly not high on the syllabus in some parts of the country).
