I have seen several photos in old 1930's newspapers show that the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy had a collection of ship's figureheads mounted outdoors on the base at Devonport, Auckland. They were from old Navy warships that had previously served at Devonport and gone out of service, according to one of the reports I saw. The photos usually showed them being repainted or touched up so that they remained presentable.
I have wondered for a while now, does the RNZN still have this collection of figureheads? I cannot recall seeing any at the RNZN Museum, but it's been ages since I visited there so maybe there were some on display?
