I recently came across a picture of a Harvard which had been chopped down to a fuselage just behind the canopy and centre section only. It was mounted on a truck chassis and was being used as an Air Training Corps Training Aid/Recruitment display. The truck appears to be an American COE type but could also be a British model. Does anyone have an idea of what the truck might have been? It would make an interesting model.

I'd love to confirm the serial of this particular Harvard.

I'm almost certain it is not COE GMC, or Chevrolet. I'm going to say the truck is a Ford 29W 1940-42's pattern. See no.pinterest.com/pin/375980268869104650/I can find no plastic or resin kitsets on Scalemates and only one diecast and this only a short wheel base HO (1:87) scale ersion

Thanks one and all, Yes that is the aircraft/truck combination. I guess I may have to use poetic licence and use a Ford or GMC as used by the New Zealand Army at around the same period. I wonder if the Harvard was ever powered up. The Harvard would have had more grunt than the truck surely. Cheers Mike

They basically just removed the wings although the rear fuselage appears to have been cut and then mounted the rest on the truck. I imagine if you wanted to fly it again you'd bolt the wings back on and replace the rear fuselage. Yes it would make an interesting model.

Interesting that one view has extra steps ... The rear steps are sitting up on the walkway on the first photo so I assume one shows travel mode and one set up to accept eager customers

Note the wheels are also lowered along with the ladders set up.

I build 1/72 scale and am currently looking at using an IBG Bedford QLR fire engine model. It has a couple of ladders which could be repurposed as the step units.

It looks like the RNZAF actually built the first Flying Bedstead moon landing trainer?
