This ex-RNZAF Boeing 727 Trijet is now spending its later life as accommodation on a rural property near Leeston. looks in great shape compared to some others you see in paddocks.

This would have to be ex NZ7272. According to www.adf-serials.com.au/nz-serials/nzboeing727.htm = 8/05/2019 forward fuselage, one engine and one main under-carriage assembly transported to RNZAF Museum at Wigram were they will be put on display. Evidently this did not happen. NZ7271 was exported and NZ7273 was broken up at Woodbourne and sold as scrap.

Thanks Baz for the info and photos but did it actually go on display, or did it go into storage, only to be disposed of in such a relatively short time frame given the enormity of the project?

The museum currently has her in storage although on the tour you might see her, the house is built using the rest of the fuselage that didn't go to the museum.

'The Canterbury couple living life in aeroplane mode'.. ( link)
"Seatbelts fastened, tray tables stored away, window shades open... or something like that. The Mugfords have heard it all. No their breakfast and dinner aren’t bound to strict meal-times on board. The seatbelt sign remains off, and they can recline their seats as much as they wish. They are the luxuries Canterbury couple Neil and Sue Mugford enjoy living in their decommissioned Boeing 727. Although they’ll admit, the air hostess’ service isn’t always prompt."
