With the recent induction of a new King, and feeling a bit nostalgic, I had a look at Ohakea through Google Earth. I was at Ohakea from 1967 to 1977 (Dec), being posted to RNZAF Wigram. By god, I find it difficult to recognize anything. ! and 3 Hagars are still there( !-Vampires, 3 Skyhawks) 4 hangar has disappeared (ASS)-Aircraft Servicing Squadron, 5 hangars (Paint shop, SEMS, and Radar servicing) Have been replaced, and where are the T&T bay and the Skin bay gone to?? I recall the compressor was replaced before I went to team 2 in ASS. Is there still an engineering club on Base?? When at T& T bay we had a Lister single-cylinder hand-cranked utility vehicle, Is that still around?? Or was it scrapped when the A4s left?
