Question. How were the blades transported? Were they kept attached to the rotor head and transported in a box or what?

The blades were removed and placed under the fuselage on the hold floor. they had special cradles. the tail rotor blades were left insitu and were rotated when placing the Huey on/off the C-130 to overcome the change of attitude as the Huey came up the ramp and into the hold through the rear cargo opening

The hub was placed in a cradle as was the mast. The roof mounted pitot tube on the H models was involved and laid on its side. The FM whip antenna was also removed. From my not so reliable memory, the Synch elevators were removed. Fitting stretchers inside the aircraft made for a nice place to have a snooze while in transit and was marginally quieter although that is a relative term. Generally one Helo per C130 but 2 C130 could take three Iro if the tail booms were removed.
