Hi all, This is an older kit but I recently reviewed the SH Vildebeest. A great kit I’m excited to build - featuring an RNZAF decal option! - and I thought some here may be keen to see what comes in the box. The in-box review can be read here.

A couple of quick comments on the Vildebeest kit (relating to the "read here" note). Looks pretty good generally, but the mention of the RNZAF unit operating NZ109 (I think) utilises that awful modernism of "Flight Training School" instead of the correct Flying Training School. And I cannot understand why a Scarf (spelling?) gunner's ring should appear on a Mk. III Vildebeest or Vincent when the correct equipment should have been a Fairey Hi-speed gun mounting. The propeller also looks a bit on the skinny side to me - these were serious examples of heavy wood construction, with a massive hub!

Nice looking kit. Wasn't there a New Zealand made kit, I remember corresponding with someon that had been to Dairy Flat to measure and photograph the Vincent a few years back?
And then I googled and a post from 2006 on the forum came up, kiwiresins did the Vildebeest. Did anyone make one? it was beyond my skills and income level back then. Just wonder how they would compare.

Kiwi Resins limited run models was then run by Dave Lochead. He has been out of that for years, and works at JEM these days.

it looks very much like the Valom Vickers Vincent model Scalemates doesn't show any Valom boxings but I have very, very little doubt it's the same kit. Lovely model by the way!

...And I cannot understand why a Scarf (spelling?) gunner's ring ... Scarff ring, after the inventor. As in the kit here, the specific design was often genericised, incorrectly used to include replacement improvements like the Fairey High Speed mounting and the Supermarine gun ring as used in the Walrus. (This replaced the Scarff mount on the prototype, and this the Supermarine one often being misidentified as a Scarff mount.) Wiki deets: link
