This is interesting. The Australasian premiere of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was screened in a hangar at Ohakea!
From The Press on 26 July 1984.
‘Indiana Jones’ premiere
The Australasian premiere of Steven Spielberg’s “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” was held last week, before an audience of about 700 in a converted hangar at the Ohakea Air Force base. “Indiana Jones” will begin at the Savoy, in Christchurch, tomorrow week. The Ohakea hangar had been transformed into a large cinema for the charity premier.
Special guests at the screening, to raise funds for the air force museum at Wigram, were the Governor-General, Sir David Beattie, and his wife, Lady Beatie, the chief of air staff, Air Vice Marshal David Crooks and Mrs Crooks, and Air Vice Marshal Dick Bolt, chairman of the museum trust.
The heated hangar was divided into two sections with comfortable seating set up in front of the 10 metre-wide screen and the rear set up for a buffet supper. One of the air force’s new Skyhawks, which arrived at Ohakea on Thursday, was on display in the hangar. The aircraft was one of four Royal Australian Navy Skyhawks to arrive last week. The six remaining Skyhawks will arrive later this month.

I was there that night in SD's serving wine to the invited guests, but also got to see the movie too. A few creeks and groans from No.4 Hangar to add to the atmosphere.
