HI all. Can anyone suggest the right size letters and numerals for RNZAF Tiger Moths in 1/48th. Also any suggestions for schemes that are not the usual overall yellow finish. Finally does anyone have interesting images of the Tiger in RNZAF schemes? ANy help will be truly appreciated.

It depends which Tiger Moth you want to depict, and when. They have had a wide variety of markings that varied both in era and from school to school, unit to unit. If you're looking for non-overall yellow schemes, they were painted overall silver in the postwar era. Or there is the wartime Air Training Corps Flight that had them with yellow wings and blue fuselages, and with canopies. Have you looked through the Tiger Stash photos? rnzaf.proboards.com/thread/17635/tiger-stash

I was thinking of the CFS ones at Tauranga. They seem to be overall yellow and appear to have darkish looking engine cowls and rudders.

Thanks for that. I just need to source the digits/ letters for the serials. From other pics I have seen, no underwing serials. Was this normal?

But I cannot guarantee they all had the red cowls and rudders.

OldModels Decals produces RNZAF Tiger Moth decals in 1/48 (link to shop). In my experience the fonts can be inaccurate compared to the real deal so be sure to research if you want to get it right. These decals are also quite thick and often have a texture to them unlike more mainstream products such as the aforementioned Xtradecal sheet, but in some cases OMD is the only option short of custom printing your own.

Further to my query, I have found a photo in one of my books on the Tiger by Stuart McKay. I studied a lot of the captions ( that I rarely do) and found that one photo shows CFS Tigers at Tauranga with the red cowls and rudder rear ends. On closer inspection they all seem to have an odd fixing on top wing alongside the fuel tank on port side. What is this? Also fixed to the fuel tank undersides are rectangular shapes. What could these be? Are they rear view mirrors for the pupil or instructor?
