Coming soon: The Ron Cameron Airport Collection
The Ron Cameron Airport Collection was donated to Wellington City Libraries by Ron himself before his passing in 2005. As part of a larger focus on maintaining collection access following the closure of the Central Library, this collection is one of many that has been recently digitised by our heritage team.
Ronald (Ron) Cameron put together three photograph albums to document the period when Rongotai was transformed completely by the development of the Wellington Airport. Both a hobby photographer and an employee of the National Film Unit, Ron’s collection comprises of over 300 of his own photographs.
To launch this new collection, we will be hosting an exhibition of some of photographs at Kilbirnie Library. This exhibition will feature a small selection of the content – the full albums have been digitised and will be available to view on our website Wellington City Recollect.
We would especially like to thank The Post (until recently The Dominion Post), who have generously allowed us to make their historic and copyrighted content available to view.
This online collection will go live on Wellington City Recollect on the 6th of June.
The exhibition at Kilbirnie Library will run from the 7th – 30th of June.

I had a look at the photographs, they are mainly about the construction of Rongotai Airport. The aircraft photos are mainly in Book Three.
