This just in from Peter Cooke.
Friends of DONZ This email is to let you know of a new book freshly published by the Defence of NZ Study Group (DONZ) – 'Ships of War in NZ Waters—380 Years of Naval Activity'. The book is being launched in Wellington on 13 June. It would be great to see you there; details are below. If you cannot make the launch, you can order a copy directly from me. Please let me know which edition (Standard or Deluxe) you want and whether I could send you my bank account details for a direct deposit. The book started out as a lock-down project looking at foreign warships in Pacific waters. The focus of visiting NZ ports gave me a way of quantifying their presence. It grew to include warships in NZ service and the type of ships spread to include any official ship:- government training ships, research ships, exploration vessels, troopships - even pirates! Part 1 of the set is an Introduction followed by an alphabetical list of the 2600 ships, with their port visits and dates. A few details are given to establish each vessel's identity accurately. Part 2 then is an image of more than half the ships, listed chronologically. The standard set is printed in the economical Truepress process, while the Deluxe part 2 is high-quality toner-based digital. Both are bound in robust soft-back. Many thanks, and please forward this notice to anyone you think would be interested.
