A.N.Z.U.S. exercise

Three thousand United States, Australian and New Zealand soldiers and airmen will take part in the A.N.Z.U.S. exercise, Triad 81, next month, the Minister of Defence (Mr Thomson) announced yesterday. The exercise will extend from Auckland to Waiouru.

Military exercise finishes

PA Waiouru Exercise Triad 81, the largest Anzus exercise conducted in New Zealand, is drawing to a close at Waiouru. The 3000 soldiers and airmen taking part in the exercise will leave Waiouru over the week-end, thus almost halving the population of the camp and town which rose to nearly 6000 during the last two weeks. The American troops who took part in the exercise will spend tonight on a marae in Rotorua. They are due to fly out from Auckland on March 3. The Australian contingent will be flown from Waiouru to Christchurch today for sightseeing before returning to Australia.
