What is going on here? Is that crable it is sitting on part of the launch? Or was it a hydrofoil? AIR FORCE RESCUE LAUNCH: The first sea rescue launch built in New Zealand for the R.N.Z.A.F. taking the water yesterday at W. G. Lowe and Son's yards. NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 4 SEPTEMBER 1942

Oh, I found this of it in the water. The above must have been a temporary cradle for the launch. W44, 45 and 46 were originally intended for the RNZAF, but last boat was diverted to the Civil Aviation Branch of the Air Department, and remained at Auckland to assist in handling flying boats and other duties for TEAL as well as other visiting craft. A fourth boat was thus ordered to replace '44, and W88 joined the RNZAF at about the end of 1942. Latter of course can be seen at RNZAF Museum, Wigram.
