Has anyone ever seen or do you have photos of the following RNZAF Harvards taken during wartime?
NZ1033 NZ1052 NZ1053 NZ1057
NZ1033 served with No.2 EFTS at Ashburton in 1943-44 and the Fighter Gunnery School and Gisborne and Ardmore in 1944. I'd love to know what colour schemes it wore at those two schools.
NZ1057 also served with the Fighter Gunnery School and Gisborne and Ardmore in 1944.
The other two, I do not know where they served during the war.

This may be one taken, I think, at Woodbourne? Not sure what is going on as it appears to be on a turntable. Doubt it is a compass swing as I thought they were normally done out on the airfield away from everything? Also not sure why it has 2 vertical bars. 1033_d by , on Flickr

Could that turntable have something to do with training at the Fighter Gunnery School? A sort of simulator?
Do you have a high resolution version of that photo please? If you do, would you mind emailing a copy to dave_daasnz@hotmail.com please?

From my very limited experience compass swings done with engine running. Bit risky on that contraption but can be proven otherwise.

Too much steel for a compass swing.

Looks like a lot of wood in there with the exception of the jacks and rear fuselage 'tie down' bar. Weird.........

I tend to support Baz in that retraction tests of the undercarriage were being carried out using a compass swing pad. As stated above compass swinging normally requires the engine to be running

Not sure why you need to raise the tail for a retraction test. It also appears to be minus the propellor.
Sorry, I do not have a high resolution photo.
