Emirates A380 into Christchurch, a major public event...

For any of you in Christchurch, you probably know that Emirates has resumed flying its A380 there. Recently while in CHC I decided to go down and capture it, but I wasn't expecting the sheer number of people turning up to watch it. These images were taken from MacLeans Island Road adjacent to the RWY 20 threshold and it was packed with people. There were cars parked all the way along the road and cluttering up the crash gate entrance. I reckon there were more than a hundred keen-eyed folk and their kids gathered to watch it come in. This happens every weekend when this aircraft arrives, apparently.

The cars on the road and blocking the crash gate before the arrival of the aircraft, there were more to come. There were cars also parked on the road behind where I was standing.

Yep - They have been flying into/out of Christchurch since at least Easter this year as my return flight home on the 11th April after the Blenheim Classic Fighters Air Show last Easter was on Emirates A380 EK413 from Christchurch to Sydney. I have a photo somewhere of my first Champers before I sat down in seat 7A!
