I've got a Lockheed L-10 Electra underway from the 1/72 Execuform vacform kit…took a bit of courage to initially ‘cut plastic’ although it’s progressing steadily now. Working from some good 72nd profiles and bulkhead drawings I’ve managed to scratch build an interior. The seats are ex-William Bros. Boeing 247 kit so are correct period 😉. I have some resin engines that i'm using in this build. The landing gear is scratch-built from brass bits and props are ex PM Models Beech C-45. I've omitted the nose landing lights and replaced them with wing-mounted versions. I'm thinking at this stage it'll be ZK-BUT with Trans-Island Air I reckon the overall shape of the model is better than the only other L-10 model out there, the injection moulded one by Special Hobby. sides by Harry Follas, on Flickr interior by Harry Follas, on Flickr cockpit by Harry Follas, on Flickr assembled by Harry Follas, on Flickr wheels by Harry Follas, on Flickr thumbnail_1I7A9459 by Harry Follas, on Flickr thumbnail_1I7A9464 by Harry Follas, on Flickr thumbnail_1I7A9462 by Harry Follas, on Flickr

Cracker job so far Harry! I'm afraid I was young and overeager when I started mine so it'll probably be on a stand with painted windows. Oh to have a nice quality injected one!

LoL, Well Zak, yes well there is the Special Hobby kit, however being one of that firm's first models its not that great unfortunately. If the kit wasn't so blinking rare and expensive now it would have made a great parts donor to this build 1I7A9401 by Harry Follas, on Flickr Here's my SH Electra from about 15 years ago...OK but has shape issues

Lovely job Harry, the extra details really set it off and I think you've nailed the TIA scheme.

Thanks Zac, there seems to be 1-2 variations of this scheme with the way rudders and wingtips were painted/not painted...lol, not making things any easier. I'm getting closer to completing the livery, however I will be needing to get some white printing done...Rego on the tail fin and the "Spirit of Tasman Bay" script on both sides of the nose... thumbnail_1I7A9873 by Harry Follas, on Flickr thumbnail_1I7A9856 by Harry Follas, on Flickr

So, ZK-BUT had a landing accident in 1959 and never returned to service. Does anyone know what happened to the airframe? Scrapped? Reduced to spares?

MOTAT, the aircraft on display is NOT ‘AFD but actually ‘BUT in disguise 🥸

Thanks to BUT's current appearance we actually have three ZK-AFDs! The original airframe is (stored?) at MOTAT as a partially cut-away fuselage and there's Rob Mackley's Electra 10A ZK-AFD (soon to take to Kiwi skies - taxi runs a few days ago) which is half in those colours and half in Chilean markings!
