It is sad to see that the Scottish actor David McCallum has passed away just days after turning 90. He was notable to aviation fans as playing the art of F/Lt Simon Carter in the brilliant 1972-74 series Colditz, Lt Cmdr Eric Ashley-Pitt, FAA, in The Great Escape (1963), and Quint Munroe in Mosquito Squadron (1969).

RIP. Also love him in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." from my teenage years and more recently NCIS.

He was also an exceptional Robert McCall in ‘The Equalizer’, and wasn’t he also in another TV spy drama?? Or am I thinking of Edward Woodward???
RIP, indeed…

I think you are thinking of the late Edward Woodward. I probably was, too, but McCallum was in ‘Sapphire and steel’…

That's how I came to know him before seeing Mosquito Squadron and other items from his back catalogue. One of those guys who was always a delight to see and leaves quite a legacy. A good innings.

Damn, was great to see him pop up in NCIS (Kitt's working her way through the whole lot ) but definitely Sapphire & Steel, Man from U.N.C.L.E and 633 Squadron stick out for me.
