My father worked for Continental Airlines at Auckland Airport during the early 90's before going to Air New Zealand. I have a photo of myself as an infant sitting in business class of a Continental Airlines 747 going to Brisbane (I assume it was a 747-200, as the seat in my photo is exactly the same as the seats in this one). Unfortunately I can't find much info on Continental's operations out of Auckland. Has anyone come across any info on their routes in/out of Auckland, aircraft used, what their structure was i.e. were they essentially American aircraft operated by American pilots, but based out of Auckland? Any resources would be greatly appreciated!

I flew with them from Auckland in 1992 but I was very young at the time so I don't recall the exact route - I *think* it was Auckland - New York (Newark possibly?) via a stop in Honolulu. I've still got my 'junior aviator' wings with the old meatball logo they handed out somewhere. I would also assume it was a 747-200, because one of the few memories I do have is that I had a diecast model 747-400 that I took on the flight and one of the flight attendants saw it and commented they didn't yet have the 'new' 747 with the winglets. Funny what memories stick with you!

Thanks Dave, that's a good find. Funny what memories stick with you! Dad worked for Continental Cargo, so I have vague memories of visiting the facility at Auckland Airport (security in those days was certainly different). If we are talking about the plastic meatball lapel wings, I still have 5 of them stored away in a container. Those type of things certainly contributed to a love for aviation, and it sounds like your experiences had the same effect!

Yes those are the ones, I had some from a few different airlines but I liked the Continental ones particularly.

Around the early 90s there was a couple of humorous but harrowing tales circulating the Aero Clubhouses and Flying Schools of NZ concerning arrivals of CO flights in Auckland.
Anyone else remember them?

Can you please elaborate on what was being said, Tom?
