Hi all, i have a question, I have the Revell Douglas SBD 5 Dauntless model Kit in 1/32 scale, I am trying to find some RNZAF pacific decals for this kit as 25 Squadron flew these aircraft in WW2. I have been looking for a while now and no one has been able to help. Apparently matchbox built a 1/32 SBD kit that had RNZAF decals, but this model has been discontinued for at least 15 years. Would any one know of any that are available

Matchbox did indeed put out the Dauntless in 1/32nd with RNZAF markings, in the scheme of the one with nose art "How About That Hic!" I built the kit years ago. I didn't know Revell had released a 1/32 Dauntless. Is the kit nice? Or is it the old Matchbox moulding with raised panel lines, etc? The new RNZAF Corsair decals from Ventura may be of some assistance to you. I believe this sheet is 1/32nd and should be close to the right size www.venturapublications.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=69&products_id=257

Or is it the old Matchbox moulding with raised panel lines, etc? More likely than not, as Revell have been releasing some ex-Matchbox stuff lately. The 1:72 Victor, Wellington and Halifax are three that come to mind as currently available.

Hi Mumbles. The Revell SBD-5 is the old Matchbox kit, and I understood that it was released with the same decal options as the older release? I did a Google search for the Revell kit, but zilch! The new 1:32 Corsair decals from Ventura will probably provide those for the wings, but will be too large for the fuselage roundels. The only option is to hunt down a set of the old RooDecals set they did for the P-40 - the fuselage roundels should work for the Dauntless! Try the Victoria Hobby Centre in Melbourne, as I think they did a reprint of these. The alternative is to use the Ventura 1:48 scale Corsair fuselage roundels. Nose art is unavailable, and would have to be custom made (try Craig Sargent - Talon who is a member of this board). For options, check out my site at: rnzaf.hobbyvista.comCheers, Pete M.

I hope you manage to find the decals you need. When it's completed, please post a photo here. We'd all like to see it I'm sure.

Guess what I was just told - Trumpeter are about to relese a new 1/32 USN SBD-5/A-24B Dauntless.
If it's up to their 1/32nd Avenger standard, I'll be getting one.
