A very good short documentary here on the Fulmar.

I think much of the footage in this documentary show the later (Griffon-powered) Firefly rather than the humble (Merlin-powered) Fulmar! The different shaped rear cockpits and the fitting of long barrelled cannons can help sort one type from 'tuther.

Yes, but it is nice to see the Fulmar getting some recognition though.

Too many people are not aware of the Fulmar.....and also the contribution of the Firefly in WW.II.....most just think about Korea

The same goes for the Albacore. A fantastic aeroplane, but it gets maligned as 'not as good as the Swordfish' because they kept building Swordfish. That's wrong. It was better than the Swordfish in many ways, but the production continued on the older aircraft because it too was so damned good at what it did. There are so many stupid myths out there, often stemming from people forming opinions and writing them down in the 1960s and 70s...

Completely agree Dave. Not enough research done by many whose journalistic abilities are akin to the accuracy of the tabloids

Just like the Russian stuff was all crap and totally inferior. The lone voice in the wilderness was, if I remember correctly, William Green? I loved reading his articles about Russian aviation back in the day and it certainly opened my eyes. Their aircraft were built to suit THEIR needs. Also a wee bit likes the overlooked Swedish aviation industry - ignored by all expect those who operated their aircraft and real knowledgeable journos.

Not sure if it mentions it in the clip, I watched it with the sound off cause her indoors is watching something bloody inane on the Teev, but apparently the Fulmar shot done more enemy aircraft than any other FAA type during Ww2, not bad for a slow old bus like that. Steve.
