Pilot found to be dead
(N.Z. Press Association) WANGANUI, May 16.
The pilot of a Maule M-5 aircraft which disappeared near Wanganui while on a flight from Auckland to Gore last year was officially pronounced dead by the District Coroner (Mr C. L. Riddet) in the Wanganui Coroner’s Court today.
Despite a huge air and ground search, Mr Roy Jeffrey Courtney, aged 32, married, of Gore, and his aircraft were never found after he was reported missing on July 27, 1974.
After an inquest ordered by the Solicitor-General, Mr Riddet concluded that Mr Courtney died as a result of an air accident about 45 nautical miles north of Wanganui on the morning of July 27.
