I was saddened to read of the passing of Robert Taylor late last week. I have always admired his work & he is rightfully recognised as the master of his craft, arguably one of the finest military aviation artists of all time. He was only 77. It would be tough for me to pick a favourite but "Closing The Gap" stands out - particularly after reading Des Scott's autobiography where he described the carnage at the Falaise Gap. Blue skies My Taylor, your fantastic work will live on.

I totally agree. I am so lucky to have a number of his prints including "Swansong" Gunter Rall and JG300's last combat mission in WW.II. "Closing the Gap" is also a favourite as are some of his Vietnam prints. If you look at "Phantom Strike" and "Closing the Gap" there is a very, very similar feel. The action is not overstated but it feels real

Yes, a sad loss. He was a giant in aviation art. His paintings were what first drew me to enjoying aviation art. He has left an amazing body of work though. And I think he has also inspired a lot of people to take up aviation art.
