Hi Its been a while since I last visited these pages and I hope what follows is not in the wrong place as I am unsure where to ask a few questions. I am now booked for my revisit to New Zealand from the UK in mid November to mid December this year 2024. Amongst the usual attractions, I plant to visit Ardmore and in particular Warbirds of NZ. What I would like to know is, what is the best and cheapest way for me to travel down from Sky City hotel Auckland to Ardmore? All suggestions are welcome. I have been looking forward so much for the planned trip to NZ since 2020 when covid put a stop to it!!! The only thing is, re Ardmore, is it will be mid week when I am in Auckland and the Friday of that week we'll be flying down to Wellington. Will the Warbird collection be open for a visit?
Secondly, will it be worth my time to visit the Ferrymead collection at Christchurch?
My other visits to aviation places of interest will be MoTAT(for the second time since 2019), The war museum and on South Island Omaka, Wanaka and Gore/Mandeville plus possibly Ashburton and Wigram for a second time too. PLus anything else I may come across like airfields etc.
All the best and I look forward to you suggestions and help.

At times previously they have also been open on Wednesdays, but I'm sure they haven't made any firm plans for next summer. It is probably worthwhile sending them an email and seeing what they can do. There are no buses to Ardmore, if you can arrange things midweek then I would guess a train to Papakura then taxi/uber (about 6km) would be best. Public transport info Auckland Transport AT.govt.nz

What I would like to know is, what is the best and cheapest way for me to travel down from Sky City hotel Auckland to Ardmore? If you walk down to Britomart Station, which is only about five blocks away, you can get a train all the way to Takanini which will cost around $7.00 each way. There is no public transport to Ardmore from there but you could get an Uber. it is 5.5km from the station to the airport. Secondly, will it be worth my time to visit the Ferrymead collection at Christchurch? Yes, but check with the Ferrymead guys here as to when the aviation section is open. See the Ferrymead thread here and talk with Denys or Alex for details.

I would encourage you to have some flexibility in your planning, by November the Vickers Vincent, currently in a holding pattern at Wigrim, is anticipated to have returned to the North Shore, so a visit to Dairy Flat may be worth considering.

That may or may not be the case, though.

WRT Ferrymead, email me ferrymeadaero@gmail.com closer to the time (ideally say 3-4 weeks out) and we'll tee up a time for you to come through.
