Air pioneer 'killed by sabotage'
(NZ Press Assn—Copyright) BRISBANE.
An Australian aviation historian said that he had proof that the death in 1933 of the pioneer pilot, Bert Hinkler was caused by sabotage.
Mr Ted Wixted, an authority on Queensland aviation history, said in a prepared statement that he had reached his finding after a seven-year study into the fatal crash of Hinkler's Puss Moth light aircraft in the Italian Alps. He said his findings were set out in a 43-section document in a London vault.
The person responsible for the sabotage was identified in the documents, as was the piece of equipment that was tampered with, causing the crash.
An English detective inspector had been given permission to examine the documents to decide whether Scotland Yard should investigate, Mr Wixted said.
He had decided to tell of his conclusions because of “a marked reluctance on the part of properly-constituted investigative authorities to inquire in to all the circumstances surrounding the crash.”
Hinkler, one of the best-known fliers in the early days of aviation in Australia, in 1928 became the first man to fly solo from England to Australia.

There is no mentioned of suspected sabotage on Hinkler's Wikipedia page. Did anything come of this claim and investigation?
