Well spotted Dave, thanks for reporting this, even though no real NZ connection so far as I can see. Good to see the scientists sticking their necks out for the common good.

I will never know the answer to this one but in the war years my mother was a pay clerk at the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough and she told me, on more than one occasion, she used to make up the pay packets each week for many of the staff, including Watson Watt. There is a possibility she also did so for Dennis and Anne Burns. I certainly recall seeing Anne's name in gliding information over the years. In February 1945 Mum arrived in New Zealand, on board the Stirling Castle for a better life with her new husband (my father). In her cabin were five other war brides. Also on board, heading to Australia, were 2000 odd Australian Returning Servicemen.
