NEW ZEALANDER KILLED AT ADEN
Pilot Serving With R.A.F.
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 15.
A New Zealander serving with the Royal Air Force in Aden was killed in an air crash on Wednesday, according to information received in Auckland today. He was: Flying Officer Roderick Albert Jude, aged 27, son of Mr and Mrs James Jude, of Auckland.
Flying Officer Jude qualified as an accountant and joined the New Zealand Society of Accountants before enlisting with the Royal New Zealand Air Force. He later transferred to the Royal Air Force, and after a period in England, flew Canberras for a year in Malaya. He was transferred to Aden at the time of the recent trouble in Iraq and was serving at the time of his death with No. 8 Squadron of the R.A.F., stationed at Khormaksai.

The Press, PRESS, 16 August 1958 From page 537 of Vol 3 of my For Your Tomorrow: Tue 13 Aug 1958 MIDDLE EAST Training at the Khormaksar Range 8 Squadron, RAF (Khormaksar, Aden) Venom FB.4 WR481 - on commencing to turn downwind for a second attack on the range collided with another of the Squadron’s Venoms (WR541), at 0820. The pilot radioed that he was about to eject, but was apparently unable to do so and died when the aircraft crashed. He is buried at Aden. The pilot of WR541 was able to crash-land back at base, his aircraft subsequently being written off as damaged beyond repair. Pilot: 503566 Fg Off Roderick Albert JUDE, RAF - Age 27.
