Today, for the first day of the 2024 event, Hamilton really laid on the best weather.
20 balloons assembled at Innes Common, and all but one of them took to the air.
Of the 16 locals, two I had not seen before:
Lindstrand Balloons LBL77 ZK-FTC/3 is locally based
While the Deramecourt Amateur-Built balloon ZK-FAJ hails from the deep south
Among the visitors were the Boland Fred N8295
and Aerostar S-52A Raven N9129V
Special shapes this year are Luiz Paulo Gnecco Rodrigues N613FP 'The Pig' which unfortunately departed the launch site facing the wrong way for a good photograph
and Kubicek Polar Bear N898PB, which was the only balloon not to depart in free flight
The weather forecast for the next few days in the Waikato looks top be for excellent ballooning weather, so if you get the chance go there and enjoy.
