From The Press, 10 August 1965:
Ticket For Pilot
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, August 9.
An Auckland Transport Department officer has made history by issuing a ticket to an aircraft pilot for a traffic offence.
On Saturday afternoon, Traffic Officer G. McKenzie, of Glen Eden, “booked” Richard Powdrell, of Panmure, alleging “inconsiderate use of Muriwai beach” in a Tiger Moth.
Powdrell was reported to have flown low over several thousand people digging for toheroa and then landed on the beach.
A Transport Department spokesman said that under the act, “a beach is a road and anything that pertains to a road also pertains to a beach, insofar as consideration to the public is concerned.”
He said the case was the first of its kind in New Zealand.
It was not known whether a prosecution would follow. The incident would be referred to the Department of Civil Aviation, he said.

Was his ticket quashed, or did a law change that made it legal to land on a beach later?
