ZK-BAZ Around the globe flight

Well done to Barry Payne (77) & Bob Bates (84) having just landed ZK-BAZ at Kagoshima Japan after 10 hours crossing the Philipine Sea from Guam.
ZK-BAZ is a 1962 single engine Piper Commanche.
They are undertaking an around the globe flight to commemorate the 1st aerial circumnavigation in 1924.

Superb to hear that big leg of the trip has been successfully flown.

Barry has written several excellent articles for my magazine, Sport Flying, in the past about his global travels in ZK-BAZ with his wife, Sandra. I hope another article will result from this epic circumnavigation.

I met Barry and Sandra some years ago when doing a bit of plane spotting at Taupo, where they live. Got talking, invited into their home for morning tea. Really lovely people. It’s great to read of their global aviating adventures.
