In the March 1986 issue of Sport Flying there appears a report about homebuilts underway in Taranaki. It signed by 'Gordon Pettigrew' who also mentions that 'My own RU4 project is suffering from long work hours and a new workshop that won't go up fast enough.' Does any one know if this 'Gordon Pettigrew' is the same as, or related to, NZ425621 Flight Lieutenant James Gordon Thomas Pettigrew, RNZAF, flew two tours on Corsairs with 17 Squadron in the Pacific during WWII? TIA, Errol

Many thanks delticman. His BDM registration of death confirms that he is indeed one and the same man. Do we know if he completed and registered his homebuilt? Should 'RU4' in Sport Flying actually read RV4? Cheers. Errol

Errol I dont think Jim flew after WW2 but he had a passion for acting and was very good.

Gordon Pettigrew is still a member of SAANZ, so I'd say that the article was not written by the Corsair pilot. Perhaps his son?

So it looks as though we are dealing with three 'Gordon' Pettigrews all of whom were involved in aviation - father Gordon Thompson Pettigrew WWI pilot), son James Gordon Thomas Pettgrew (WWII pilot) and grandson (?) Gordon Pettigrew (post-war homebuilt man); middle name/s of latter unknown? Cheers, Errol
